It’s less than two weeks away, are you ready for Christmas?

Have you made your list and checked it twice?

Is your shopping complete?

Have you wrapped those gifts?

How about the food? Have you bought the Christmas dinner?

Don’t forget decorations, are they all in place?

The clock is ticking and the days are counting down until CHRISTMAS! You’d better be ready, because ready or not, December 25th will be Christmas day. December 26th will be too late.

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night” 2 Peter 3:10a (NIV)

Unlike Christmas day, we neither know the day or the hour of Christ’s return, but that does not excuse us from being ready! God expects us to be watching and waiting for His return.

How can we be ready for this fabulous day?

1. Make a list – of scriptures you’ve memorized, or ones you intend to memorize. We are told to hide His words in our hearts.

2. Check it twice – or more often if needed to ensure those verses are really in your hearts and minds.

3. Be sure you are nice – not naughty. Check your behavior and be sure it’s lining up with those scriptures you’ve memorized. Confess your sins and He will forgive them.

4. Pray. Spend time getting to know God himself through prayer. Pray the Word of God, pray your needs and pray your hearts desires.

5. Praise. Give God the glory. Praise Him for everything in your life, and for who He is.

6. Tell others. We are expected to bring others with us to Heaven.

As you prepare for Christmas, let it stand as a reminder to prepare yourself for His return!

Matthew 7:16 says, “By their fruit you will recognize them…”

If I want to harvest apples, I won’t plant a fig tree, right?

Here’s my Proverb: Plant the seed of the fruit you want to eat.

Boy was I shocked when the Lord recently revealed to me a problem in my own life (tree).

I’ve been struggling for years with inconsistency. I have been known to verbalize it as my biggest character flaw.

I’ve lamented before the Lord to help me change this problem. Then I’ve tried a multitude of solutions – but they all fall by the wayside after a season. Returning me to my woe of inconsistency.

I’m studying a book called, When Life is Hard, by James MacDonald. In it, he points out that trials produce steadfastness. Then steadfastness will produce every good thing to cause us to be holy.

The definition of steadfastness is “to stay under.”

In a light bulb kind of moment, God gently led me to realize my issue wasn’t inconsistency – but rather that was the fruit of the tree of flight.

When troubles come my way, my instinct is to run. Maybe this is why I’ve always liked the story of Lot – he ran and never looked back. :-)

I’ve been trying – FOR YEARS – to change the fruit of my tree.

Now I realize I need to change the tree I’m growing in my life garden. It’s time to cut down flight and plant steadfastness. The fruit I will reap is going to be consistency.

It’s a baby tree, and I’m studying the Word of God to water and I’m praying to give light to my tree. In faith, I believe consistency will be my new fruit.

What’s your purpose in life?” My brother asked me – for the umpteenth time.

“I don’t know!” I blurted back at him, annoyed at his persistence with such a futile question.

Growing up with an older brother obsessed with such global questions seemed a little confusing to me.

Now that I’m an adult and have children of my own, I find myself asking them the same question, only with a twist, “What do you want to become when you grow up?”  Ironically, I still find myself musing at my purpose in life (but don’t tell my brother!).

Until three years ago, being a wife and mom to six kids would have been my answer.  But now, I realize God has a different definition for my life’s purpose.

“He has saved us and called us to a holy life, not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,” (2 Timothy 1:9 NIV)

We are here to become His holy vessels.  In each one of us, it will look quite different, but we are all going through trials of various kinds so that the trying of our faith will produce steadfastness. Once steadfastness has its full effect, we may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. (Paraphrase from James 1:2-4)

That’s why pastor’s can say, “no matter what you do, do it unto the glory of God.”  No matter what path we take or what curves life may throw our way, we are all striving to become holy vessels – lacking nothing.  In this way, we will be ready to spend eternity with our perfect Savior!

Now I just need my brother to ask me that question once again…”What’s your purpose in life?”

When he does ask me, I’ll be ready and confident with my answer: “To become God’s holy vessel.”

“I feel like I’m going to burst!” said my big sister. “God wants me to share something with you, but I’ve never done this before so here goes: You are about to move into the ministry you were created for.” She said to me.

I’m a wife and homeschool mom to SIX children. I thought.  I’m sure I already know what my calling is.

She continued, “You are going to see many doors open to you and you’ll think, ‘this is weird’ but walk through them.” She finished.

“Okay then, thanks?” I said to my sister.

The year was 2008. My entire life was consumed with homeschooling six beautiful children, and loving on my husband.  But much of that was about to change.

When someone prophecies over you, it’s hard to know what to think.  In the past, it has been a confirmation of something already in my heart, but this time was strange.  It was as if God was telling me to prepare for change – but with no clue what to look for.  I began to pray for wisdom.

Within a week, my close friend told me she started a blog.  I had never heard of a blog and asked her to explain it to me.  After checking hers out and realizing it didn’t cost any money, I quickly started one. How fun!  I thought. A place to write my thoughts.  I began growing my blog and writing, writing, writing.

Next, my friend invited me to attend a writing conference with her called She Speaks.  After looking into the conference I found it to be full.  With nothing to lose, I put my name on the waiting list and prayed.  ”Lord, if it’s your will, please let the doors open.”

The next day, I had an email sitting in my inbox saying I was in.  That was too fast!  I hadn’t even mentioned it to my husband yet!  Prompted by my friend and the Holy Spirit, I called him at work and told him everything.  To my surprise he told me to sign up!!!

Suddenly, I remembered the prophecy given by my sister.  Writing doors were opening up and I kept thinking, “This is weird.”  Now I wondered what was next…
